iPod Random Generator April 2009

Entry 1371 posted in: 9. I, Pod

April. I'm sitting on a commuter train writing this post. Jump For Joy from The Passions on the iPod. Life could be much worse.

Also in 2009 my iPod will be in autoplay mode and that for the second consecutive year. Give Me Back My Man, The B-52's followed by The Move. Message From The Country. I could jump for joy indeed.

The results from past year, apart from the song ratings, have been reset on the database. Louise - Jona Lewie (a forgotten track from a forgotten cold wave compilation).

Every month a graph will be published here, the playlist of the month will appear on my MySpace blog and the overview of the year will be glued on my MySpace entrance page. Nothing to be excited about. Smile, David Gilmour (so frail you fear it could fall apart any time).

For those who still want to know the how and what and where and when I give you this old link: Random Blueß aka sucking for statistics

The Crystal 1.1 Walkthroughs (1): Love in an elevator

Entry 1387 posted in: e. Adult Oriented Games

Hotel Californication Virtually Date Crystal is an ArianeB clone, made by Chaotic. It can be played online on his site but, just like with the original predecessor, it is preferred to download, unzip and play offline. Some information about the game can be found at my blog entry: Crystal Voyager. As the flowchart / walkthrough presented in that post is (partially) outdated I'm planning to post some walkthroughs for the next couple of weeks.

Here is part one for version 1.1. If you would like to get around the backspace key protection just disable Javascript in your browser (more info: Virtually Date Crystal 1.1). As there are no parameters in the game (influencing later situations) you don't need scripting. This also means that you can resume the game from a deadlock situation if you remember the name of the previous multiple choice html file.

Playing by the chart takes most of the fun out of the game. But it comes in handy when you want to check if you have found all possibiliities.

Warning: Virtually Date Crystal is an 18+ game containing some virtual nudity and some explicite situations. If your government, religion or mother refuses you to play it you should follow that good advice. I never did and look what has become of me...

If you are playing the game from your local folder, start it by double-clicking the knock.html file. The introduction is not as difficult as in ArianeB, just shake Crystal's hand, or: if you are in an adventurous mood, kiss her on the cheek. The find something to do link will show the different places in the house. Some will trigger a path that can be further explored, others are dead ends.

This first walkthrough shows, in my opinion, Chaotic's very first attempts in making a dating game. It is still largely based upon the ArianeB simulation and some situations are very familiar indeed. But let's get started, the following flowchart gives you the steps to go to the casino annex hotel. A lot of obvious one-click-only-step-through scenes have been omitted, only situations were (different) decisions are involved are represented here.

Crystal11p1s01.png

Probably you have found out by now that the red boxes represent dead ends, although not all red boxes immediately mean that the game comes to a halt. At startup you can easily go from room to room at Crystal's appartment (but only 3 rooms contain links to carry on with the date). It is possbile to go to the bar at the casino and have a light drinkwithout harming the outcome (just don't go for heavy drinks). You can also play the slots after the roulette. The first time you will lose, the second time you will win.

Of course all dead ends carry their own images and situations. Going from the hotelroom to the east street will lead you to a bar, but Crystal is not into drinking. Going from the hotelroom to the west street will lead you into a strip club, but Crystal is not into stripping, yet...

To go on with the date we must head to the shopping mall were we will buy some clothes and, how original!, some fitting lingerie... Crystal, have you noticed, likes black... Bribing her with clothes and fueling her with drinks will finally lead to a strip show at a nearby bar...

Crystal11p1s02.png

Fuel Crystal with exactly 3 drinks and the game will lead to the strip bar, probably the most difficult part of the game. Making the wrong decision will end the simulation, so I have put the names of the html files in question, as it is possible with version 1.1 to restart the game at any situation. After the strip show (that still goes on a bit) we are finally going to get our reward...

Crystal11p1s03.png

After the strip club Crystal is in a good mood. The end game offers satisfactory scenes in the elevator, in the corridor leading to the room and in the hotelroom itself. See if you can find all possibilities...

The Crystal 1.1 Walkthroughs (2): Let's have a party

Entry 1395 posted in: e. Adult Oriented Games

Rachel the amazing snake woman! Virtually Date Crystal is an ArianeB clone, made by Chaotic.

Here is part two for version 1.1.

In the previous walkthrough we admired the view from the balcony and followed a gambling, drinking and striptease path. This time we head to the kitchen where there is absolutely nothing interesting. The rules of etiquette must have changed over the years as reading the messy amount of post-its, papers and discount coupons at the scrapboard was not done in my days, but anyway, that is what we will do... and guess what? We find an invitation for a party,... and what a party it is!

Crystal11p2s01.png

The party scene breaks down into different locations, situations and scenarios, and I apologise for the somewhat cluttered bottom part of the flowchart.
Pose-off 1 (left side of the chart): Crystal is asked to participate in a pose-off game after the outdoor jacuzzi. It is a dead end street basically although the story continues for a couple of frames. The same ending is triggered by following Crystal somewhere else once too often. Pose-off 1 will end the game rather unsatisfactory.
Pose-off 2 (right side of the chart): The second pose-off game is more daring, contains a strip scene and leads to an empty room with a spare bed. The ending is satisfactory for all parties involved.
To avoid pose-off 1 and 2 you need to zig-zag your way through the chart and the various locations at the party: forget the jacuzzi, forget the pool. enter the bar where everyone is leaving for the pose-off, but don't follow the crowd. Hang out with Rachel to see what happens.

Crystal11p2s02.png

If you stay with Rachel she tries once again to lure you into the pose-off game. However, there is a bug in the game (since version 1.0) and choosing the pose-off will bring you to the pool instead. Basically there are only two options left here and they always start with some pool fun (including a Truth or Dare game), followed - if all goes well - by a photo session. Where have we heard that before? The above chart shows what happens if Rachel is in the tub with the player, but you can ask Rachel to join in as well. Have fun!

Crystal11p2s03.png

Be careful as there are a lot of dead-ends here. If you play it smart you can hace a threesome with Crystal and Rachel, if you play it smarter you have a solo session with Rachel alone. Crystal doesn't want you (the player) to interfere too much, but no guidance from your part will lead her right in the arms of her friend. Normally you should be smart enough to find the endgame by yourself, but since I am in a good mood, I wil give you that as well.

Crystal11p2s04.png

So... did you find all the possible endings? Good boy.

Somebody ought to tell her that it is freezing out there... Virtually Date Crystal is an ArianeB clone, made by Chaotic. It can be played online on his site but, just like with the original predecessor, it is preferred to download, unzip and play offline. Some information about the game can be found at my blog entry: Crystal Voyager. As the flowchart / walkthrough presented in that post is (partially) outdated I'm planning to post some walkthroughs.

Here is the final part for version 1.1.

If you are playing the game from your local folder, start it by double-clicking the knock.html file. In the first walkthrough we admired the view from the balcony and followed a gambling, drinking and striptease path. The second walkthrough learned us that party invitations are always hidden in the kitchen. With a little luck they lead to drinking and stripping as well. For the third (and final) overview of the game we will head to the bedroom first, but not for what you think that will happen there. Put on your stepping shoes and walk...

Crystal11p3s01.png

Have you made it to the steamboat? Good, please note that is is entirely different compared to a casino annex hotel. Like the hotel this boat has a bar, like the hotel this boat has a room with a bed. But unlike the hotel this boat has a top deck, were people put on their top hats and play there favourite Titanic scene.

Crystal11p3s02.png

The steamboat path was added for version 1.1 of Virtually Dating Crystal and it shows. It is funny, some dead ends go on for quite a while and Crystal likes to smash you in the face.

Chaotic's next project will probably be called Erica. Until that game is released... bye bye.. till the next time.

Iggy at the Gates of Dawn

Entry 1419 posted in: The Holy Church of Iggy the Inuit

It has been awfully quiet at the Iggy front. Call it spring fatigue, problems of the heart or plain laziness but the Reverend was a bit depressed. When The Holy Church of Iggy the Inuit started on eight eight eight (the number of the beauty) this little blog shook and stirred like a dry martini ogling in front of Mr. James Bond.

While the quest was new and aloof and thrilling enthusiasm was flowing through the Reverend’s loins it actually felt that the mission was leading somewhere, and the Head of the Church felt like Robert Langdon manoeuvring towards that mythical pyramid in front of the Louvre, safe-keeper of the holy grail...

The rest of this message, promising to reveal some new exclusive Iggy pictures, can be read at Iggy at the Gates of Dawn...

Last week the Holy Church of Iggy the Inuit revealed two new Iggy pictures appearing at the Chimera Arts website that distributes the Iggy Eskimo Girl movie in various parts of the world (alas, not those parts of the world the Reverend is familiar with).

Anthony Stern who, should you not know, shot the movie in question recently updated several pages on his site as well. The Church investigated about the how, the why, the where and the when and the complete article, covering Anthony Stern's movie

Entry 1422 posted in: The Holy Church of Iggy the Inuit

Although Iggy is the prototype of the vanishing girl we know quite a lot of her through the bits and pieces that have survived that big black hole also knows as the Sixties.

In November 1966, when she was (about) 21 or 22 years old she appeared at The Bend party that was affiliated with the television show Ready Steady Go!

And there was of course her apparition in a 1967-ish documentary, called IN-Gear, hinting that Iggy was seeking fame and fortune as a model or an actress. Unfortunately enough it seems impossible (or at least improbable) that the production sheets will ever surface, nobody seems to know where the archives of the Look At Life-series, that ran for a decade between 1959 and 1969 and added up to more than 500 episodes, physically are, if these still exist.

The Reverend has been re-reading some older posts at this funny little place aptly called The Holy Church of Iggy the Inuit and some needed updating. Exactly what has been updated and why can be found at the latest post: Anoraks and Pontiacs.

The ArianeB 5.7 walkthroughs (1): What's New Pussycat?

Entry 1424 posted in: a. ArianeB

NEW: THE ARIANEB WALKTHROUGHS have now got their own domain:
http://arianeb.atagong.com

ArianeB, or Virtually Date Ariane, if you prefer, has got updated and listens now to version 5.7. The previous update (5.6) had only modified some internals of the game and took care of some bugs, but this one, with its 70,747,121 bytes download, contains 55 new or updated images (and 102 new or updated html files since version 5.5).

The Life in the Metaverse blog, home of ArianeB and her friends, has got the following to say about it.

I’ve been tinkering around with the dating simulator again, making some improvements to the backyard activities, especially the swimming activity, which has not been changed much since version 1.0.

The rest of that article has got some very interesting background information how the new graphics were made (using some techniques from Second Life). As a whole the Life in the Metaverse blog is very recommended for those that are interested in the virtual 3D life out there.

The story and scenarios from ArianeB 5.5 haven’t changed, as far as I am aware of, so the different walkthroughs should still be - more or less - correct. What has changed is that a new situation has been added at the swimming pool and that most of the pool pictures have been redesigned.

Update: the latest walkthroughs for the ArianeB 6.21 game can be found at: The ArianeB 6.21 walkthroughs: All in one

Under Water Games Challenge her to a race

If you don’t know how to get in the pool you can consult the following walkthrough Meet, Greet and Meat and head for the skinny-dipping scenario. Once in the water you can proceed as described before or choose a new hotpoint that reads: challenge her to a race.

A new mini-game has been implemented in ArianeB and you can now have an underwater swimming race against ArianeB. Obviously the game takes place in the swimming pool and it can be done during a regular bikini swimming session, a monokini swimming session or while skinny-dipping. Needless to say I only tried the skinny-dipping variety.

Basically you need to click the letters A, B and C in the right order and in the right time. A new game parameter has been implemented called racetime. This parameter measures the time (in milliseconds) between the first and the last mouse click and decides who is the winner.

To win the game you need to click the three hotpoints in between 2000 and 3000 milliseconds (or 2 and 3 seconds). If you click too fast the game tells you are out of breath, if you click too slow it means that you are… just way too slow for ArianeB.

The walkthrough for the swiming contest can be found at Pool Party.

The complete idiot’s guide to hacking

File text19.htm contains the necessary code deciding who wins or loses the race. This file can be opened in any text editor, Notepad will do fine, and by changing a few numbers you will always win (or lose) the race. This can come in handy when you are a slow clicker (like I am). It doesn’t matter if you win or loose the swimming race for the rest of the simulation; it just helps those with a frail ego.

Warning: changing the game parameters is not a sportive thing to do!

Race3 – swimming pool wall picture

Open file text19.htm in Notepad.
Look for the segment that starts with function race3().
Altering the number at the
(parent.racetime < 3000)
line will lead to a different intermediate picture. Changing this figure, however, will have no impact on the final result of the mini-game; it only decides which intermediate image will be shown.

Race4 – finish

Open file text19.htm in Notepad.
Look for the segment that starts with function race4().
This segment contains two triggers;
(parent.racetime < 2000)
is for the fast clickers: 2000 means that you lose the race if you clicked the 3 points in less than 2 seconds of time. Changing the 2000 to a ridiculous low number, 10 for instance, means that you will never click too fast;
(parent.racetime < 3000)
is for the slow clickers: 3000 means that you lose the race if you clicked the 3 points in more than 3 seconds of time. Changing the 3000 to a ridiculous high number, 30000 for instance, means that it will be difficult to click too slow.

Bugs

Page end19a.htm contains a typing error, one line of code leads to the gropeskin.jpg image but spells the filename wrong. Replacing the
image="images/gropeskin.jpgg";
line with
image="images/gropeskin.jpg";
should do the trick.
(This bug was found by qbv8)

Walkthroughs

Several rumors are going round that other game situations have changed as well in version 5.7 (the strip scene?). Version 5.7 will be tested against the already existing walkthroughs and updates will be posted where necessary.

Trivia game

One significant change in version 5.7 is the trivia game that has been increased to 80 questions. Here is the new list of questions, and noblesse oblige, the answers as well. If you don't know how to get to the trivia game, please consult the following Fast Food, Fast Games, Fast Girls...

Warning: ArianeB is an 18+ game containing some virtual nudity. To put it in other words: if your mommy, church or government forbids you to look at thongs and titties you are advised not to touch it and to contemplate your fate. I will not visit you in prison.

If this walkthrough looks familiar to you: the main reason is this is just an update of the previous one highlighting the changes since version 5.5.

If you are looking for previous walkthroughs, please consult: ArianeB 5.5 , ArianeB 5.0, ArianeB 4.8 or ArianeB 4.6.

Careful with that steak! Introduction

If you have never played ArianeB before and don't know how and where to start, I invite you to consult the first walkthrough of version 5.5: The ArianeB Chronicles (of course you need to download and unzip version 5.7 if you are planning to play the most recent version). All necessary steps are described there and the changes of version 5.7 only kick in at the après-dinner pool scenario.

The game starts as you introduce yourself to ArianeB. You need to impress her without going too far. Turning on some music will put her in a romantic mood but going to fast will end the game before it has even started. Basically this introduction is the same for (nearly) every scenario.

As these steps haven't changed since version 4.0 I will not repeat these here. The necessary steps can be found at The ArianeB Chronicles more specifically in chapters A better start and We meat again.

Skinny dipping

Although all doctors say that having a swim right after dinner isn't a wise thing to do this is exactly what we will choose for. More or less...

You just had your steak with ArianeB and a long silence falls over the table, time to get some action this old boy thinks and...

Go to the backyard.
Get in the hot tub. ArianeB jumps in the hot tub with her clothes on.
Change clothes.
Follow her into the bedroom.
Let her finish getting ready.
Go somewhere else.
Go back outside in a towel. ArianeB proposes to have a skinny dip in the pool.
Go skinny dipping.

Version 5.7 kicks in here and does it... with a (small) bug.
Jump in naked. Let's get back in the pool... actually it is the first time you dive in the pool.

Keep swimming naked. A new image appears, Let's swim some more, Grab her breasts and Let's get out of the pool are the old scenarios, so we will not push on those but go for...

Challenge her to a race.
Get ready to race.
A.
B.
C. To win the swimming race you have to click points ABC in between 2 and 3 seconds. For more information please check: Pool Games.

Keep racing.
Go back to complete the lap.
Finish race.
It was a good race. The actual phrases may change and depend on your clicking speed.
Follow her out of the pool.

Theoretically you can go for a second swimming race (or other pool games), the game will not allow you to dive 3 times in to the pool but twice will do. Doing the race twice will stop the game though as ArianeB gets some cramps when she gets out of the pool (the second time). I told you before that swimming after lunch wasn't a good idea!

The swimming race is over and the scenario that had been implemented in version 5.5 takes over again...

Go back inside.
Take a shower.
Follow her into the bathroom.
Wait for her to get out.
Take a shower.
Ask to stay the night. Be careful here, the wrong move will end the game.
Strip naked and wait.
Climb into bed.
Climb into bed.
Have sex.
Ung Ung Ung Ung... uhuhuhuhuh... AHH AHHH AHHH...
Finish.
Go again.
Ride'em cowboy!
Cuddle.
On a scale of 1 to 10, you get a 10.
Kiss her goodbye.
End kiss.

Another swimming scenario

Although the walkthroughs could make you decide that ArianeB is quite simple and straightforward this isn't really the case. The coding and parameters are extremely complex meaning that several situations will be triggered from others. The game is less linear than you think and playing by the walkthroughs takes out most of the fun. Testing version 5.7 made me discover some paths I had never found before. Here is one example of another way to get to the swimming race.

Start the game with the bistro dinner and the bar brawl. If you don't know how please seek comfort at Bistro Dinner and a Fight. On the dancefloor punch the guy in the face and leave the bar. Do not go to the amusement park but...

Continue home.
Go to the backyard.
Go swimming.
Wait for her in the hallway. ArianeB has put on a bikini and is ready to swim...

You can have a go at the (bikini) swim race...  Good luck with the rest.

Yet another swimming scenario

But you might not be in for a bikini swim race. Then do the following. Start the game with the bistro dinner and the bar brawl. If you don't know how please seek comfort at Bistro Dinner and a Fight. On the dancefloor do NOT punch the guy in the face but protect Ariane. The immediate effect is the same, you will have to leave the bar. Do not go to the outskirts but drive ArianeB home and then...

Continue home.
Go to the backyard.
Go swimming. ArianeB is felling too lazy to go and chance and decides to take her dress off. Bingo!
Let her undress. This is a chance to see some more images.
Take your clothes off.
Jump in naked.

Another chance to have a go at the (nude) swimming race...

The Great Belgian Firewall and Other Assorted Stories...

Entry 1465 posted in: 1. General Mish Mash

I’m in the middle of preparing a laptop for the use of the 3D animation suite that can be found on the cover disk of the July issue of Computer Shopper. It contains DAZ Studio, Hexagon 2.2, Carrara 5.1 and a couple of hundreds programs more… The only thing I can’t grope is how on Earth (this is Earth, isn’t it?) a July issue of a magazine can be found half of May in the shops in Belgium, knowing it already takes minimum a week before these magazines arrives in our little rainy country after they have been issued in their country of origin?

I’m getting all grumpy and old fashioned now, I know, but in my days, when you wanted to have the July edition, of let’s say Lui magazine (computer magazines didn’t exist yet, for the simple reason there weren’t any computers around with exception of the Johnniac and his relatives) you went to the shop the first week of July. If you were very adventurous or impatient or both you could go to the press shop the last week of June and try to ask for it, but most of the time you were informed that the magazine would only arrive the week after or thereafter…

These were the good old days when the safest place to be unmolested was the park at night because most molesters were priest or monks anyway hiding in (boarding) schools where they could have a go at the children. These were also the times when girls in the original Lui magazine still had pubic hair. Strangely enough, in Belgium, the girl’s pubic hair always was pitch-black and trimmed in an even-sided triangle

A closer look at the pictures would divulge that artists had been at work replacing any trace of female flesh by strokes of ink. This wasn’t done by a centralised Belgian censorship bureau but rather by the distributor of the magazine itself, in order to prevent the (possible) confiscation of the magazine by the Belgian authorities that had rather shady pornography laws. At high school, where I was doing my best to get a degree in communication, this was given as an example of how ambiguous rules can and will lead to censorship. The reason to censor the images was not because the Belgian authorities found Lui pornographic and thus illegal, but because there was always the theoretical possibility that one or more pictures in the current issue could be considered pornographic by a Belgian judge, which is a not quite the same. Thus Lui was censored, by its distributor, before it entered the press shops without an immediate reason to do so. Of course we all had to buy a copy of the magazine to further investigate how this censorship thing was effectuated.

Censorship is a matter of all times. In the past some Belgian Internet providers tried preventing their customers from downloading or torrenting music or movies, not because the jurisdiction told them to do so, but only because the Belgian copyright association threatened to sue them for every illegally downloaded MP3. A blind man with a broken white stick wouldn’t fall for this, but most Belgian providers, afraid for lengthy lawsuits, did shit their pants and told the copyright hobbyclub they would gladly share downloading information. Imagine Nazi Germany being beamed into today’s world and the Waffen-SS asking Internet providers to give them a list of clients who regularly visit Jewish websites or fora.

For the last couple of weeks there has been much ado about the Great Belgian Firewall. This firewall was originally set up to block illegal (child) porn websites, financial scam sites and racist or historical revisionism websites. But the very first censored site did not fall into one of these categories: www.stopkinderporno.com is a dubious site against child porn, providing information that is considered illegal in Belgium. Trying to reach it through a Belgian provider will forward you automatically to the Internetpolice (Federal Computer Crime Unit and Ecops). It is a rather cynical situation and up till today it is not really sure if the Belgian providers are applying the DNS-block on a voluntary basis or because a court order has obliged them to do so. Even in a democratic country like Belgium it is sometimes hard to get the right information.

What bothers me is that the providers don’t even have the guts to inform their clients and refuse to make an official statement about big brother’s latest escapade. If this proves something it is how frail democracy is and how capitalistic powers react when they have the choice between democracy and profit.

Anyway, conform to the Belgian official guidelines of mediocrity; it only takes a few clicks to bypass the firewall, an action that is still not considered illegal, while it lasts. But why doesn't that reassure me?

In my house alone my Internet connection is at least monitored and logged 3 times by my provider. Telenet installed a D-Link switch that has a built-in firewall, logging (and directing) all incoming and outgoing traffic. I'm pretty sure about this because I have exactly the same model linking my home network to theirs. The firewall has the ability to ‘phone home’ whenever an alert takes place. I use it all the time.

The Telenet switch hangs next to the Telenet cable-modem that splits television signals from the Internet. Surely it must have logging capacities as well. The cable-modem has a wire that goes through the outside wall and connects to a box hanging outside under my roof. That box is probably a splitter that divides the data to and from the different houses in my street. In order to do that it must remember who is visiting what and where...

Even if I bypass the great Belgian firewall my provider keeps logs from what I’m doing. And it doesn’t reassure me a bit that Telenet, and all the other Belgian providers, are willing to share these logs with anybody who simply ask for it.

And now a little treat for those who have read this post till the end.
Shark, from Shark’s Lagoon, has made a new version of Secret Fantasy Dreams (part 2)...
Chaotic has made a successor for Virtually Date Crystal, called Virtually Date Girls
That last will get some attention for this blog later on if all goes well and if the great Belgian Firewall allows me to link to the game in question…
